A turn

As all my african quilts are gone in Libreville Gabon to be exhibited,

I felt like having to change a lot in my life.

Trough some spiritual readings I decided to look back into MYSELF and to express it by the mean of Mandalas. This is the first one.
Enjoy...

Time for kids

Once a year the kids of the municipality have the oppotunity to share the adults's life as to discover all the jobs possibilities. I have been asked to share some basic elements of sewing with them. They went back home knowing how to thread a needle, to make a knot, to sew a button and to sew a stright line. Better than nothing and they went home with a small felt MP3 bag.

first collage

Inspired by Wen Richmond collage serie I started this small quilt which includes the use of what I learned from the workshop "Drawn to pen and ink" Quilting arts Workshops.
The fabrics are scraps from all the ones I have collected in Africa

Thérèse

After following Linda Matthews's FFMG I did my home work adapting my african style and using the Markal oil painsticks , keeping in my mind the project "for a good cause

Water carrying

I am starting a quilt for a poject named "Ca coule de source?" Who can translate it in english? With some belgian and african artists we would like to start a travelling exhibition which should draw people's attention on the problem of water in the world.
This is the first draft from the women transporting water all the day long.

sketchbook

The feature from JJ Foley in the Quilting arts Magazine 35 issue inspired me to try her (or his) method. Starting from a photo that I took during an "artistic nude" workshop with Bernard Pajak teacher. I altered it with the computer program.
The black echoing lines are the ones which should be quilted. Since a lot is still to be improved Ii am sure that I will enjoy myself doing other sketches on paper before trying one onto fabric.

batik

During july and august, summertime here in Nassogne, there is a night markt open twice monthly. I will participate exhibiting some small works.
I have done quite a lot of perspectives (thanks to Angela Madden) .
People love that kind of quilts.
I would not say that it is artquilt but as we say in french, it is the everyday bread that feeds the family.

batik

Just another one.

Quevaucamps

There should have been more paint on the cardboard but with a closer view the result is better

Quevaucamps

During Linda Colsh's worshop in Quevaucamps, a student gave me this piece of corrugated cardboard. I painted it with a roller and black diluted acrylic paint.

Nathalie

I am just back from Coxyde at the belgian North sea coast where I met Nathalie.
We knew each other through Quilt University and Dena Crain on-line courses since 2003.
But from a virtual contact she became not only a real person but also I discovered that she is such a nice and creative person.
In Belgium we have a problem. It is quite unbelievable for such a small country that we have to get artquilting contacts with Internet tool. All the small quilting clubs are so traditionnal: chatting, drinking coffee and eating cakes, following allready made patterns, buying expensive pure cottons and ZERO creativity goals
So, I invite all of you to visit her blog http://creativehours.blogspot.com/

My place

This is the Nanfurnal building. I am living on the ground floor, so it is like having all the garden for me (without lawn mowing).
We still have wildpigs, foxes, stone martens, stags and many visitors.
Welcome and enjoy

stone marten

Do you also have those stone martens living in your environment?
To-night she or he was just enjoying some peanuts on the other side of my door. Last year we had the daily visit of a fox.
I have to say that the building we are living in was supposed to be
a hospital for tuberculosis 40 years ago in the middle of the Ardennes.
I will post a photo of the view that we are enjoying.

Soul of africa

The suprise of this quilt done for the "Music" exhibition is that I have scanned a CD that was just like any standard CD.
Then it came out with different colors which were matching with the background fabric. Then I had just to print them onto the fabric.
The dancers and the CD are hand applique as well as the quilt

this is made from a real old telegram (letters before internet) printed on fabric from my printer onto cotton and quilted

Who am I?

I have the feeling to be 2 persons in one . Whith my right brain giving its instructions seen on my left side, eveything is heavy.I am sad, tired, negative, blind, looking at the past... From my left brain is sprouting my imagination, my creativity, my smile, everything that I like to do.
In my uterus there is the sex pleasure and the children but also the pain.
All my roots are in Africa, I am a belgian white african and it is not easy to find my place here in Nassogne.
Sometimes I can get mad, I could cut one of my ear like a famous man did it before me.
I will carry on trying to find the answer.

expo Quevaucamps

Linda and myself have been invited to participate at the exhibition organized by the Couleur Fil ( color thread) association in september. We will have to work on the words: "step" and "footprint".
I am looking forward to be there again.

Linda Colsh

Here is our great Linda in our small Belgium last week end, teaching different ways of making and using silkscreens with acrylic paint. She showed also how to make and use rubbing stamps, stencils, monopriniting... 2 days very intensive as she gives as much as she can. Thanks Linda

Burning and distorting

Foil details

Inspiration of the day: synthetic felt distorted with a heat gun, foil, wrapping paper, rope, buttons...anyway a creative and recreative exercise.

Old gold: in this one I played with the heat gun on synthetic fabric, spraypainted and then burned paper, wrapping paper, copper rings bought some time ,somewhere threads, embroideries carved in african fabric, in fact anything that seemed interesting
